The seventh chapter of Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined sees your heroes at an impasse with the locals of Emberdale, as their leader, Gaffer, doesn't seem to believe a word of your warning about the volcano. You'll need to figure out a different course of action, and thankfully, you won't have to look too far for an ally.

Here's how to complete Chapter 7 of Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined, including all major objectives.

Emberdale Village

Once outside, you’ll hear a conversation happening near the well. Head over there and speak to the old woman in robes named Palmela. She warns the locals of a vision she saw herself in her crystal ball, of the town being swallowed up in “rivers of lava”.

The locals still seem to take no heed of the warnings, and Gaffer approaches and further shuts down her prophecy. Another quake shakes the ground, and he declares that the festival will start that evening. With disaster imminent, Palmela asks the group to meet her at the Trading Post.

Per her request, head into the Trading Post nearby and speak to her. After agreeing that the village is in imminent peril, Palmela tells the group that they need to head up to Burnmount, the volcano, to get to the bottom of the crisis while the festival is underway.

For now, head over to the Inn and ask to rest until that evening. The innkeeper will note that your nap is on the house, so get some shut-eye and you'll wake up in time for the festival.

Once you're up, leave the Inn, and you can stop by a vendor set up at a table to the left of the Inn if you need anything.

Go and speak to Gaffer at the tables set up in the center of the village, and he'll blow off the concerns raised earlier by Palmela, urging you to relax and partake in the festivities. With little recourse, Kiefer insists they go talk to Palmela instead, so head into the Trading Post.

Speak to Palmela, and she notes that the path up Burnmont won't open until the Return of Fire ritual starts in the village. After she dismisses you, speak to Kiefer, and he'll mention that you need to get permission from Gaffer to participate in the ritual.

Leave the Trading Post and go speak to Gaffer standing near one of the fire pits nearby. The locals have all adorned themselves with flaming hats for the ritual (similar to the ones seen in the vision), and he mentions that your group needs some as well.

Soon enough, you'll have fire hats of your own, and Gaffer will ask if you're ready to start the ritual. Select 'Yes', and in the following cutscene, you'll watch him perform the initial ceremony. Once it's done, it'll be time for the trek up to the summit of Burnmont.

Burnmont

Upon arriving at Burnmont, you'll start at the back of a long queue leading up the volcano. You don't need to stay stuck back here, however, so just run up past the line and speak to the local at the front, waiting to go in. As he expresses his excitement, Gaffer will emerge and offer to let you in first, so exercise your privilege and head inside.

Run through the passage ahead, and this brings you to the summit of Burnmont, where Gaffer is waiting. Speak to him, and in the following cutscene, you'll be allowed to toss your fiery hats into the lava crater below.

Once done, run around the perimeter of the crater to the south, where you'll find Palmela. Speak to her, and she'll instruct you to head for the "belly" of the volcano while there's still time. To do that, head through the passage behind her.

Level 6

On the other side, you'll arrive at a small room with a statue save point. Replenish your HP/MP and save your progress, then head into the stairwell down to the next level.

Level 5

On Level 5, you'll emerge in the south quadrant that's closed off from the crater on the other side. There are two ways down to the next level on either end of this passage, and to progress, head for the one that the arrow sign points you to (the one to the north).

However, if you want to detour for a unique treasure reward, take the stairwell to the right all the way down to Level 1, and there you'll find a treasure chest with a Scale Shield inside. It's a decent defense upgrade for either the Hero or Kiefer.

Otherwise, take the north stairwell on Level 5 down to Level 4.

Level 4

Once you're on Level 4, again you'll have two paths to choose from. The south path leads directly to another treasure room that's quicker to get to than the last one, so consider making a brief stop there before continuing.

Descend briefly to this room on Level 3 and open the chest for a Divine Dagger, which is a decent upgrade for Maribel.

Back on Level 4, follow the red sign again to the stairwell at the north exit to the next level below.

Level 3

Once on Level 3, follow the straight path all the way down and around to the next stairwell. There'll be several mobs of enemies to clear out here, but nothing too formidable, so it's an easy source of XP on your way through.

Level 2

Upon arriving at Level 2, you'll notice that this level is abundant in monsters. However, most of them are ones you've fought many times before, with the exception of the Bubble Slimes. Be mindful of those, as they can randomly inflict Poison with their physical attacks.

Take the opportunity to grind a bunch more XP, gold, and rewards here if you can.

Also, make sure to run up the short path on the left (not the main one) to find a treasure chest at the end. Open it to get a set of Scale Armor you can give to either the Hero or Kiefer.

When you're ready to move on, follow the main path around the outer rim of the floor to the left until you find another stairwell leading down (flanked by two arrow signs). Take it to Level 1.

Level 1

Follow the winding path all the way around to the exit at the far end of this level, and take care of more monster mobs along the way. There are no other detours here to make note of.

Level 2

You'll emerge back on Level 2, albeit in a different section of the level. At the fork, take a brief detour to the left until you reach a small ledge on the side of the volcano. Open the treasure chest here for a Yggdrasil Leaf item (allows you to resurrect a dead party member).

Now backtrack inside and take the other path at the fork to the exit.

Level 3

Once again, you'll emerge back on Level 3, but in a different, closed-off section than before. There isn't much to see here, but you'll run into a new type of monster called the Little Devil. These are especially pesky, as they cast an offensive spell called Crag that continuously does damage to each party member it's cast on.

When the coast is clear, head for the exit at the opposite end of the level. This brings you up to Level 4.

Level 4

In an alternate section of Level 4, you'll need to bum rush your way through a few mobs of Cactiball monsters to reach the exit. If you want to be more stealthy, just clear out the mobs on one side and slip by the other, if you don't want to be bothered.

Continue to the exit to reach the next milestone on Level 5.

Level 5

In this alternate section of Level 5, you'll find a save statue at long last to heal up and save your progress. Do so, check your equipment and items, then run over to the fiery crater on the other side.

Feel free to wipe out the monsters scattered around the crater, and initially, this room may look like a dead end. However, your objective here is to get to the "belly" of the volcano, so you'll need to take the only other way down, which is into the crater itself.

Approach any side of the crater and interact with it to get the prompt to jump in. You'll want to continue this process on each level (though detour on Level 3 for a Mini Medal in a treasure chest).

Level 1

Once you reach Level 1, you'll see a large creature trembling near a dark void in the center. Save and heal up at the nearby statue first, then approach it. A cutscene will play, revealing the identity of the creature as the Glowering Inferno, and he's bound and determined to harness the power of the dark flames swirling overhead to lay waste to Emberdale and the world beyond.

He'll then take notice of your group and threatens to burn you "to cinders". With that, the cutscene ends and the epic battle begins.

Defeat Glowering Inferno

The Glowering Inferno is by far the most formidable boss in the game so far, and you don't want to approach him lightly. As you can guess, his main element of choice is fire, so keep that in mind for your own elemental attacks.

Focus on building up your defense first with your Hero's Buff ability, and use his Ocean's Devotion when available to help absorb some damage. Buff Maribel's attacks also, when possible, and use Kiefer's Helmsplitter to lower the boss's defense.

On the offensive side, use Maribel's ice-based Crack attack and the Hero's Aqua Slash attack for some strong elemental jabs. At certain points, Glowering Inferno will temporarily power itself up while also buffing its defense. Along with its party-wide slam attack, it'll also use a Fiery Breath move that hits the entire group as well.

Keep watch on your defenses as you deal damage until Glowering Inferno is finally defeated. For your efforts, you'll earn a Red Fragment as a reward. However, the sphere of black flames remains a threat as it rises up to the volcano's summit. This means you'll need to get back up there as soon as possible.

Backtrack and save your progress at the nearby statue, then head over to the hole in the floor at the back of the room. When prompted, jump into it, and you land in a potentially familiar room (where the treasure chest containing the Shell Shield is).

From here, use the stairwell exits to make your way back up to the top level of the volcano. Save at the statue on Level 6, then take the stairs up to the summit.

Summit

There, you can see the sphere of black flames hovering over the crowd around the crater. Approach and speak to Palmela, who, in turn, asks you to tell her everything you encountered within Burnmont. She then attempts to counter the black flames herself, but to no avail.

However, she also foresees a vision of a young man who looks an awful lot like you, dousing the flames with a bottle of a mysterious substance. After deducing that the person is indeed you, she asks if you have anything like that bottle on you. As it so happens, you do.

Your character will approach the flames, and you'll get the prompt to douse them with the Wholly Holy Water Uncle Pike left you with earlier in the story. Do so, and the black flames will then dissipate, its power no longer a threat to Emberdale.

Gaffer then formally apologizes to Palmela and your group for his stubborn refusal to believe your visions and invites you back to the village for some last-minute celebrations and good rest. Once the cutscene ends, you'll automatically return to the village and sleep the night away.

Emberdale Village

The next day, leave the Inn when prompted and speak to Palmela just outside the building. For all your help in saving Emberdale, she offers you a Green Fragment. After a fond farewell, there's little else to do in Emberdale for now, so leave the village.

Circle back around the island and head for the portal to take you back to Estard.

Estard

Once back on your own soil, speak to Kiefer and Maribel. They both suggest returning to Estard Castle to see if yet another island has appeared in the present thanks to your efforts. There's nothing to do in the Assembly Room for now, so head out and leave the Shrine of Mysteries.

Estard Castle

Make your way back to Estard Castle to meet with King Donald up in the throne room. Approach and speak to him to trigger a semi-lengthy cutscene. While he thanks your group for all that you've done so far, a soldier enters and confirms that a new island has been sighted, meaning that Emberdale has re-emerged in the present.

Despite this good news, the King declares that Kiefer must end his adventures, deeming them too reckless for the future heir of Estard. Kiefer remains silent, and Maribel's father also appears to demand that she return home after putting herself in danger. After they leave, your father Pollock arrives and asks you to return home with him as well.

Pilchard Bay

The scene then moves to your home in Pilchard Bay, where Pollock and Pearl provide words of concern and wisdom about your adventures. Pollock wishes for you to stay close to home, but ultimately understands if this adventure is your true calling.

In the meantime, he asks you to sleep on it, so head upstairs and interact with your bed to rest for the night. The next day, leave your house, and Maribel will surprise you outside your front door.

She mentions that after convincing her father, he's agreed to allow her to rejoin your adventures. With that, Maribel rejoins the party. Now head for the Shoreside Shrine inside the hidden cave on the left side of the shore.

Shoreside Shrine

Go inside and interact with the boulder covering the stairwell down to the shrine. Unfortunately, your Hero and Maribel can't move it by themselves, and Maribel suggests finding something to use as leverage. For now, run out of the cave, and Kiefer will run up to meet you both.

He hilariously explains that he snuck out and jumped off the cliffs from Estard Castle and swam his way to Pilchard Bay, though he was picked up by Pollock's boat along the way. As if on cue, Pollock makes his appearance to the trio.

Realizing that the group remains steadfast in their determination to uncover more islands around Estard, he accepts that there's no convincing them otherwise and reminds them that "the whole world's dreams are resting on your shoulders". With that, he bids your group farewell for now, so head back into the cave.

With Kiefer now back, you can move the boulder out of the way and use the stairs to reach your boat below. With Emberdale now above the surface, it's time to go check in on them. When you're ready, board the boat and set sail when prompted.
