The Best Aussie Nintendo Deals

Get all of the joy with none of the cons.

The Nintendo Switch is a killer console, thanks to its unique multiple form factors for play. However, that's not to say some extra games and accessories can't make your experience even better. After all, the Nintendo Switch is a console that's made to be used with a wide variety of peripherals, many of which Nintendo makes itself.

In your quest to upgrade, just be aware that not all Switches are created equal — the footprint of the Lite version is, as you'd expect, slimmer. It'll jiggle about in any carry case designed for the OG Switch. Worse, any complementary screen protectors that might come with said case will be too big!

Latest Nintendo Deals

Pictured: Monster, hunting, rising.
  • Monster Hunter Rise + Sunbreak (-84%) A$12.70 Still fast, still precise, and Sunbreak finally gives the loop real teeth. Enormous value, but it expects commitment and a tolerance for menus that never learned shame.
  • Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age (-45%) A$43.70 Political, dry, and quietly brilliant. The Zodiac Job System fixes the original's mushiness, though its MMO pacing still asks for patience.
  • Bluey The Videogame (-35%) A$39 I'm stretching the Must Play term here. Charming in short bursts and clearly for families first. Light on challenge, heavy on vibes, and exactly what it needs to be.
  • Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney Trilogy (-67%) A$13.10 Writing-led, gloriously melodramatic courtroom nonsense. The cases remain clever, the pacing occasionally indulgent, and the value here is almost rude.
  • Trine Ult. Col. (-80%) A$17.90 A beautiful physics playground best enjoyed cooperatively. Smart puzzles, floaty combat, and occasional chaos when teamwork collapses.

Or gift a Nintendo eShop Card.

Nintendo Switch Pro Controller

The Pro Controller’s face buttons are big – much bigger than the tiny Joy-Con buttons – and give a nice press. Thumbsticks also feel excellent, and they’re offset just like on Xbox. Add in phenomenal 40 hrs battery life, and this is quite the controller.

Third Party Controller Options

Rematch Wireless Donkey Kong controller

If, like me, you're an especially banana-obsessed Switch owner, I think you'll find this DK-inspired wireless controller to be aesthetically a-peeling. It plays nice with every Switch model, even the Switch 2, though the C Button has gone walkabout. But there is the cosmetic drawcard of a lenticular front that flicks between artwork, like the big lug is giving you a nod of approval for surviving another blue shell.

In terms of performance, this thing actually earns its keep. Motion controls make steering and swinging feel second nature in Mario Kart 8, World, or Donkey Kong Bananza. But I'm more about its two mappable back buttons for on-the-fly trickery, a 30-foot wireless range, and roughly 40 hours of juice per charge. Basically, this is a third-party controller choice that's about as solid as DK's pecs.

GameSir Nova 2 (Switch)

The Nova 2 does not care that it is not an official Nintendo Pro Controller. Instead, it struts in with a 69 buck price tag that makes you grin and a feature list that makes you double check the box. It looks simple, it feels comfortable, and it works exactly how I wanted it to.

The Hall Effect sticks are a game changer here. They keep drift at bay, which is more than you can say for the average Joy-Con. The buttons are tactile, the triggers have just enough snap, and the back paddles are a cheeky extra that you would not normally expect in this price bracket. Add rumble and motion support, and you are basically covered for most of the Switch library.

Wireless connection is painless and stable, and the battery goes the distance. It is easy to forget this is not a premium pad once you are three hours deep into Mario Kart or Zelda. Is it as polished as the official Pro Controller? Not quite. But it is also about half the price, which makes this the definition of a smart buy, whether you need a backup, a family-friendly spare or just a way to stop your Joy-Cons from feeling like they run the show.

A Cheap / Cheerful Retro-Centric Controller

null
Best scored at Amazon AU or JB Hi-Fi

GameSir Tegenaria Lite (Switch)

Boiled down to its A$39 basics: retro chic meets budget brilliance in a wired controller that punches above its weight. This wired Switch controller ditches batteries and Bluetooth for the simplest connection possible. That means zero lag, no charging dramas, and a rock-solid link every single time. It is perfect as a plug-and-play spare or a kid-proof pad that you'll keep on hand for the especially sticky-fingered ones.

The Hall Effect sticks give you precision and durability that should outlast most Joy-Cons. The face buttons are snappy, and the D-pad is surprisingly accurate for retro classics on Switch Online. If you are into platformers or fighters, you will find yourself grinning at how much better it feels than you expected.

Sure, it lacks fancy features like analog triggers or HD rumble, but that is not the point. This is about affordable reliability with a sprinkle of nostalgia. The Tegenaria Lite may look like a throwback, but it plays like a sensible upgrade. It is the controller equivalent of comfort food, and there is nothing wrong with that.

The Best Game Cave Glow-Up Deals

I finally decided to tackle the gloom in my gaming setup and invested in the Philips Hue Bridge and Ambiance Gradient Lightstrip. Setup was straightforward: plug in the Bridge, connect it to my router, and the Hue app guided me through the rest. The Lightstrip's gradient technology allows it to display multiple colours simultaneously, creating dynamic lighting effects that transform the room's ambience. Whether I'm streaming or just gaming solo, the customisable scenes and smooth transitions make the experience more immersive.

Yes, it's pricier than basic LED strips, but the quality and versatility justify the cost. The Lightstrip is flexible and extendable up to 10 metres, allowing for creative installations around the room. Plus, the Bridge supports up to 50 lights, so expanding the setup in the future is straightforward. If you're serious about creating a professional-looking streaming setup or just want to enhance your gaming environment, this combo is a game-changer. Highly recommended as a purchase.
